Asian Martial Arts
Asia has a very long history of the martial arts. From India to China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and to the Philippines, the nations of Asia have a long rich history of the fighting arts.

One can argue that the modern martial art started from China with the advent of the Shaolin Monks. Oriental karate or oriental martial arts began centuries ago. The Buddhist monks of Shaolin invented many colorful styles depicting animals and insects. They include Monkey, Tiger, Crane, Praying Mantis, and Dragon. The more popular arts of Asia include: Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do, Tang Soo Do, Jui-Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Choy Lay Foot, Wushu, Tai Chi, the varied Shaolin Animal Styles and Filipino Kali.

Side Note: The Supply of commerce was very rapid and robust amongst the nations. China, Korea, Japan and India all had trade routes to exchange supplies, goods and resources. With the advent of these supply routes, defenses and security needed to be built. The study, creation and perfection of the martial arts allowed the even flow of supplies from region to region.

Dictionary Notes: Asia is the largest of the continents with more than half the world's population. Though strictly speaking all of its inhabitants are Asians, in practice this term is applied almost exclusively to the peoples of East, Southeast, and South Asia as opposed to those of Southwest Asiasuch as Arabs, Turks, Iranians, and Kurdswho are more usually designated Middle or Near Easterners. Indonesians and Filipinos are properly termed Asian, since their island groups are considered part of the Asian continent, but not the Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians of the central and southern Pacific, who are now often referred to collectively as Pacific Islanders.
